22nd Annual ACCUPLACER® National Conference

From June 28 to 30, ACCUPLACER® users from all over the nation attended the 2012 ACCUPLACER National Conference in San Francisco.

Participants had over 40 sessions to choose from. Some sessions focused on data indicating the positive impact on student performance as a result of the implementation of ACCUPLACER's New Vision, which includes ACCUPLACER®//MyFoundationsLab®, state customized assessments and the iPhone app.

Other session topics ranged from ACCUPLACER best practices, such as ways to enhance student performance and readiness for college, to innovative technological features that improve the experience of ACCUPLACER users.

Our keynote speaker, Jack Scott, former California state senator and current Chancellor of California Community Colleges, delivered the opening address.

Plenary speakers discussed the benefits and value of the College Board's Completion Arch, an excellent and reliable resource featuring data and statistics on the progress of community college students and on the ongoing national discourse about how to get students college ready.

We are pleased to announce that in July, Indiana's statewide community college system — Ivy Tech Community College — approved the adoption of ACCUPLACER to develop three new Computer Adaptive Strand Tests that will be used as the sole diagnostic and placement tests in the state's community college system. The customized assessment, which will include online intervention and preparation tools for students, will be used by the Ivy Tech campuses starting in January 2014. While these customized assessments are being developed, Ivy Tech Community College will employ the ACCUPLACER Classic tests as the system's primary placement tests starting October 2012.

This new system model will align with Ivy Tech Community College system's curriculum and assessment standards in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, and will contribute to the state's goals of increasing access to high-quality postsecondary education and maximizing student success.
